Whistling Gardens is the place to go in Norfolk County when you want to enjoy blossoms in bloom. They also have great concerts and food and is even a wedding venue for many. Whether you want to enjoy a quiet afternoon to reflect, or bring your family to enjoy the fresh air and nature, Whistling Gardens is a great place to go. On my recent trip to Whistling Gardens, I had the pleasure of speaking with Darren, the owner, founder and head gardener.
What started as a backyard garden has become a beautiful botanical retreat. In 2006 Whistling Gardens was a garden center and nursery. Every year, the gardens have expanded to what is now 20 acres of gardens. Currently, Whistling Gardens has over 5,000 varieties of flowers. The largest collection is the peonies, with 1200 varieties. It is officially the largest collection in North America for a botanical garden.
You’ll need several hours to enjoy everything there is to see and smell at Whistling Gardens. As seasons change, so do the flowers. Earlier in the season, the garden had irises, now there are peonies. Soon there will be lilies and day lilies. Garden goers can also enjoy the fountain shows throughout the week, as well as the bird aviary. You can also have a bite to eat while at the garden.
Whether you have a green thumb and horticulture is your hobby, or you simply enjoy spending time outdoors, Whistling Gardens will offer you a delightful day among some of the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen. The garden is open Tuesday thru Sunday 10:00am – 5pm throughout the summer. Check out their website here and start planning your visit!
